Before reaching the sea, the Po di Volano forms the Foce di Volano Oasis, which is part of the Nature Reserve established in 1977. This ecosystem features newly formed sandy beaches, pine forests, and herbaceous and shrubby vegetation typical of sandy soils. Moorhens, coots, and mallards can also be spotted here.

A little further north lies the Scannone di Volano, a narrow strip of land a few kilometres long, covered with a grove of maritime pines and holm oaks.

La Peschiera is a vast reed bed located on the left before the bridge over the Volano River. Its reeds host Italy’s most important purple heron rookery.

How to get there: the mouth of the Po Volano is a stages of the traditional motorboat excursions departing from Gorino and Porto Garibaldi.
