The Argenta Ecomuseum system comprises three museum sites: Museo delle Valli di Argenta, Museo della Bonifica and Museo Civico.

The concept of the ecomuseum originated in France and took shape in the 1970, first as a musée éclaté (an “open” or “scattered” museum), and later as the ecomuseum. This semantic evolution conveys the idea well: a museum that goes beyond the limits of its walls to embrace the surrounding territory, its communities, its landscape, and its cultural heritage.

The Ecomuseum is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Argenta, the Consorzio della Bonifica Renana, which built the hydraulic regulation system, and the Po Delta Park, responsible for scientific research, guidance, management and environmental enhancement of the area.

Museo di Qualità. Since 24 February 2010, Museo delle Valli di Argenta and Museo della Bonifica have been officially recognised as regional museums by the Institute for Cultural Heritage of Emilia-Romagna.This recognition is based on compliance with a wide range of requirements, including the presence of qualified technical and scientific staff, the use of appropriate methods for the management and care of heritage, a clear sense of purpose, and a solid financial structure. It also requires a set of tools, equipment and services capable of providing high-quality responses to the needs and expectations of the public.

How to get there

By car:
A13 motorway, Ferrara Sud exit. Take the Ferrara–Portogaribaldi motorway link road and exit at S.S. 16 Adriatica bis towards Ravenna. Once you reach Argenta, turn right towards Campotto and follow Via Cardinala for about 4 km; the Ecomuseum will be on your left.

By train and bicycle:
Ferrara–Ravenna–Rimini railway line. Get off at Argenta station (Via Circonvallazione), about 5 km from the Ecomuseum.
