Memorial stone to Giuseppe Garibaldi

Porto Garibaldi is home to a monumental memorial stone in memory of the Hero of Two Worlds.

An obelisk in memory of Giuseppe Garibaldi's historic landing on 3 August 1849. The monument was erected in 1884 on Magnavacca beach on the 35th anniversary of the landing, but in the 1980s it was removed and temporarily placed in the garden of the Porto Garibaldi primary school, thanks to the initiative of the school teacher Eva Fuschini.

Following restoration work carried out under the supervision of surveyor Paolo Carli, the memorial stone was inaugurated in September 2011 and can now be visited freely by walking along the quay in Via Caduti del Mare on the Porto Garibaldi.
