They are the only residue of the ancient lagoons that surrounded the village, spared by the latest reclamation works in the Mezzano lagoons and established as wildlife protection oases.
The four lagoons bends form a freshwater wetland biotope that is unique in the area, especially for the quantity and variety of animals that inhabit it. There are as many as 150 species of water birds, both nesting and migratory, in the Vallette. You can see all species of herons (great white, grey and purple), numerous waders, including the black-winged stilt, and birds of prey such as the marsh harrier and the buzzard. The vegetation is typical of freshwater wetlands, characterised in permanently flooded areas by reeds, white and yellow water lilies and flowering rushes. White willow, water chestnut and elderberry trees grow on the banks. The Oasis is well equipped for various activities such as birdwatching, walking, cycling, horse riding and sport fishing. There is also an astronomical observatory at the entrance.
