Saltworks - Po Delta Park

Covering more than 600 hectares behind the Lido degli Estensi, the Comacchio Saltworks preserve a system dating back to the Napoleonic era and bear witness to the central role Comacchio has played in salt production since ancient times.

The Comacchio Saltworks are a highly protected area within the Po Delta Park evocative, complex, and fragile. Although it is an artificial environment, created by human intervention for salt production, today, after the activity was abandoned over 30 years ago, it is inhabited by numerous bird species, some of which are rare and nesting.

It is a precious treasure chest, safeguarding traces of both a distant and more recent past, where the vastness of the lagoon landscape can still be felt, along with the hard labor of the salt workers, and where visitors can immerse themselves in a captivating natural setting.

How to get there
By car: Take the Romea Road heading south, pass the roundabout at Lido degli Estensi and the bridge over the Logonovo Canal, then turn immediately right and follow the small road running alongside the canal to the end, where the entrance gate to the Saltworks is located.

By bicycle: From Lido degli Estensi, in the port area near the Porto Garibaldi canal, a cycle path begins, initially running alongside Via Cagliari and then continuing on to the saltworks. Please note: at the end of Via della Corriera Antica, you must cross the Logonovo Canal to reach the entrance gate if you wish to continue the visit on foot. Afterward, you can complete the route as a cycling loop.
