This street, built by Biagio Rossetti by demolishing the old walls, forms the link between the Medioeval city to the south, and the Addizione Erculea to the north, thus forming the main thoroughfare of the city.

Embellished by a number of noteworthy buildings, the road is closed off to the east by a theatrical 18th-century arch.

In the last part is located Palazzina Marfisa d'Este, a frescoed residence built around 1559 by Francesco d'Este, son of Duke Alfonso I and Lucrezia Borgia.
