Jolanda di Savoia – Heart of the Land of Rice
Located in the landscape of evocative Po Delta Park, part of the UNESCO heritage, Jolanda di Savoia is an agricultural centre built and developed thanks to the land reclamation of the 20th century, which tranformed the ancient swamps into fertile lands. This is the heart of the so-called "Land of Rice", where the renowned Riso del Delta del Po IGP is grown.
Originally known as Le Venezie, the city was given its current name in 1911, when king Vittorio Emanuele III visited the town and named it after his newborn daughter, Jolanda di Savoia.
The landscape that surrounds the town is of great visual impact and symbolic: boundless rice fields, canals, paths, nature reserves and biodiversity shelters. The vast rural courts, the labourers' houses and the traditional rice factories tell the recent history of this land made of work, tranformation and a constant relationship with water.
A relevant geographic curiosity: the locality Due Magoghe is the lowest point below the sea level not only in the entire province of Ferrara but also in Italy, at about -4 metres as confirmed by the Italian Military Geographic Institute.
