It is a large lagoon enclosed between the Po di Goro and Po di Volano rivers, accessible from the roads leading to Goro and Gorino Ferrarese.

The lagoon is well known for shellfish farming, particularly clams, which find their ideal habitat for growth and development in these sandy seabeds, with an average depth of 60–70 cm and a maximum depth of about 2 meters.

Its formation is constantly changing, as it is influenced by the hydraulic dynamics of the Po di Goro and Po della Gnocca river mouths, marine currents, the development of reed beds, and artificial structures designed to ensure navigability between the river mouths and the coastal lagoons.

The fauna includes numerous species of aquatic birds, both resident and migratory; in addition to farmed mussels, the fish fauna consists of oysters, mullet, eels, sea bream, and sea bass.
The area facing the sea is defined by a long sandy strip locally known as scanno, better known as the “Isola dell’Amore” (Island of Love).

Within the lagoon, about half a mile from the port of Goro, stands a small votive shrine dedicated to Saint Anthony, the patron saint of sailors and fishermen. Every year in June, the effigy is carried in procession to the centre of the lagoon.

The lagoon can be visited by motorboat, with the opportunity to see the mussel farming areas.
