Po River
The Po river, first in Italy for its length and flow rate, is the main river of the northern province of Ferrara: it flows from West to East and it marks the border with the province of Rovigo and the region of Veneto.
Until the 12th century, the main branch of the Po river flowed in Ferrara, but after the Rotta di Ficarolo the main channell was moved and now flows in the North of the city.
The Po river flows through the province of Ferrara from Bondeno to Goro, and it passes by some towns where the connection between the inhabitants and the river is strong.
The Po river in the Ferrara area splits into different branches, such as the Po di Volano river and the Po di Primaro river, the ancient main branch of the Po river that still flows in Ferrara and allows to navigate from the city to the Po river. Another important branch is the Po di Goro river, first and longest, which takes the shape of the Po Delta along with the other branches.
