The ancient Jewish Ghetto
At the end of Piazza Trento Trieste start Via Mazzini.
Via Mazzini, formerly known as Via dei Sabbioni, was the main thoroughfare of the ghetto: at no. 95 is found the 15th century Synagogue, still in use; beside its door two stone tablets constitute a tangible record of the terrible racial persecutions.

Curiosity
Not everyone knows that inside the ghetto buildings there were internal passageways, staircases and hidden corridors, built to allow residents to move between houses without going out. An ingenious and secret system, created to resist from control and segregation.
Via Vignatagliata, Via Vittoria and Piazzetta Isacco Lampronti formed the Jewish quarter, with old buildings: terracotta houses, some unadorned, others with richly decorated portals or wrought iron balconies, the Jewish school where Giogio Bassani (the writer) taught during racial segregation, the nursery and the hospice.
