Codigoro – History, land reclamation and benedictine spirituality
Codigoro il located along the Po di Volano river and it is known as one of the main agricultural and agro-industrial centres in the area. The city's name come from Caput Gauri, the name of the medieval centre, founded where the river Po forked and gave rise to the branch of the Po di Goro.
Codigoro's history is strictly related to the land reclamation project that transformed vast swamp areas into fertile land. Through this millennial process, Codigoro has become a symbol of balance between agricultural development and environmental transformation.
In the Middle Ages, Codigoro was under the direct jurisdiction of the Abbey of Pomposa, one of Italy's most extraordinary benedictine settlements. The abbey had great religious and cultural influence over the territory. The town later became part of the Este family land and then of the Papal States.

Visiting Codigoro means to dive into a landscape full of history and nature, where the memory of the ancient land reclamations, the benidictine heritage and the hard work of these people meet, offering an authentic and deep experience in the heart of the Po Delta.
